According to the New York City Police Department, actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday in his Manhattan apartment, face-down and naked at the foot of his bed. Ledger was found with prescription pills near his body by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. Paramedics tried to resuscitate Ledger but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The New York Police Department does not suspect foul play and is investigating the possibility of an overdose. Police, paparazzi and fans gathered outside the apartment in Broome Street.

According to Heath’s father, Kim Ledger, his son, 28, had been a down to earth, generous, kind hearted, life-loving individual.

Ledger was nominated for an Oscar for his superb performance in Brokeback Mountain. He also stars in the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight as the Joker.
